Ten Moments - 2013

This was an epic year.
One that saw me compose seventy blog posts (70!) about everything from food, to travel, to love. (The dogs wrote a few, too, I suppose. So let's give credit where it's due.)

I started the year off by promising to blog better-- aiming to share more moments, better photos, good recipes. I think, as I close this year out-- I am finally getting there. With a massive rebrand  of this here space in progress, and better food posts than I've ever had-- I think it's safe to say I am holding up my end of the "blog better" bargain.

I hereby promise, so it's in writing, to do even more this coming year. But for now--

Here's ten moments that will forever leave me nostalgic for 2013.

February
Day after winter storm Nemo pounded Boston with over two feet of snow. We ventured out to see how our neighborhood had weathered the storm. The local dive let everyone know their status via snow message.

March
Ozzie turned two, and not that I am one to make a big deal out of my dog's birthday, but I'd be remiss to recap this year without a nod to my first-born-puppy-child. Words cannot describe the love and happiness this little white guy has brought us. He's also an excellent blogger.

April
We went to Chicago for Matt's 30th birthday. His twin brother's wife threw them a hell of a party at a dive bar. Matt and I danced like fools and drank like drunks. It was the weekend before Marathon Monday...and it puts a pang in my heart thinking about that trip.

May
Found myself on a business trip to Los Angeles, and suddenly weighing the pros and cons of residing there permanently. I was reminded just how much I love California. More importantly--I started to picture myself living there. And I liked it.

May
We brought home Lieutenant Mark Wahlberg "WallyCakes" Beauzekas (forever known as just Cakes) from Logan Airport after rescuing him from a shelter in Texas. I was somewhat terrified of adding another four legs to our brood, but he is positively perfect. To watch him grow (so much, so quickly) and become best friends with Ozzie made the summer so very enjoyable.

July
Our week on Lake Michigan with Matt's family was just as fun and relaxing as always. This year was a bit bittersweet, however, as they bid goodbye to the house they've rented every summer for over a decade. Next year promises a new house, and new memories, but I'll sure miss this view.

August
We took a very spontaneous weekend trip to Lake Winnipesaukee in August to see our friends.
It reminded me why I love New England and just how much I love Matty. There's something about going somewhere without even a bag packed, spending the night, and watching a beautiful summer sunrise.

August
We spent so many summer evenings "out back," in the little fenced off yard we have in the middle of urban chaos. Matt planted blackberries when we first moved in back in 2011. This summer, the berries were everywhere back there. I ate them off the vine. I put them in cocktails, and iced tea, and iced cream. I watched them turn from green to pink to delightfully dark purple with the splendor of a child. It was our last summer with our beloved back yard, and it was the best one ever.

November
My best friend had her baby shower, which gave me the opportunity to buy countless things both useful (a pack-and-play) and not-so-useful (like a four foot tall stuffed giraffe?) and basically do what I do best-- show my love via material objects. It was an amazing day, and I still can't believe I'm about to be a quasi-auntie to their little boy.

December
We closed out the year with a family Christmas eve--featuring a super-fresh baby and lots of time with my parents, brother and cousins. It was as perfect as those little cheeks.

I hope you had an amazing 2013, filled with gorgeous moments and perfect memories.
See you next year.
