Perhaps, at some point I'll post a story about a favorite place of mine that is downtown (like Kingston Station) or Back Bay (Lucca...!) or somewhere other my hood, but for now, I'll regale you with a recommendation for another Dorchester haunt - Ledge in Lower Mills.
If you're in the Lower Mills area, definitely give this place a go. Their menu is a strong mix of comfort/bar food (chowder, hot wings) and some more elaborate entrees (flank steak, Bell & Evans split roasted chicken -- which I want RIGHT NOW). Throw in some burgers and flat bread pizzas, and you've got a pretty versatile neighborhood joint. Also, the cocktail and beer list are ever-changing, and last time we were here they had Pretty Things Jack D'Or on tap. Here are some of my favorite people and things at Ledge.

Top to Botton:
Anderson Valley Winter Solstice Seasonal Ale, friends, winter apple cider with Maker's Mark, muddled mint and cranberries (Matt was in love with this cocktail), crab cakes, polenta fries, $1 oysters fresh from Chatham, my ridiculous roommate <3
There's a thing about having been in the service industry for any prolonged period. For starters, it ensures you're not that asshole customer, you tip well, and usually, you know good food. It also somewhat ensures that at any given time, you will have several friends in the industry, even if you yourself checked out almost four years ago.
Justin is one such friend -- my neighbor and college classmate; he's been behind the bar at Ledge for a while now, pouring some of our favorite beers and mixing up cocktails with a smirk and probably an insult or two (if you're acquainted.) We headed to Ledge for Dorchester/Milton restaurant week last week, but of course didn't end up ordering the three-course affair. We stuck with some delightful apps, buck-a-shuck oysters, and (of course) plenty of booze.
