Summer is definitely upon us. You can tell by the consistently lovely weather and the batches of wedding photos infiltrating your Facebook newsfeed. And although this past Saturday wasn't exactly the loveliest day in June, the nuptials I attended were absolutely gorgeous.
I first met the bride when she graciously (and amazingly) did the hair and makeup for my best friend Courtney's wedding. I liked her immediately. On a day when it was easy to get caught up in the pressure to make everyone look perfect under some serious time constraints, Olga maintained a clear head and touch of humor. While she may have had to yell "get in the fucking shower already!" a couple of times, it was obvious she had Courtney's wedding day, and only that, in mind.
Since Court's wedding, Matt and I have become better friends with Olga and Brian, her super-tall groom. Brian is a chef, Olga is a wine director; it made perfect sense that this wedding would have some serious food and drink. Beyond their culinary love, the two of them trade jokes, sweet nothings, and insults alike; making them one of my favorite couples. To further seal their fate, Olga went and did the most epic Icing I have ever seen: stashing a delicious Smirnoff malt beverage in her garter and letting him find it. Epic.
While the rain on Saturday was relentless, there was no drowning out this party. We ate, drank, danced, sang and laughed until what I thought was the wee hours of the morning. It was probably about ten PM. Starting to drink at 4 may be a touch aggressive. Us eight booze bags were strategically placed at the table right next to the bar. Not that you won't be able to tell by the following photos.
I wish every rainy day had such beautiful distractions. Cheers to two of my newest friends.
